Arkham Horror: Tall Tales Challenge #3 & Community Competitions and Challenges

Hello Investigators. Last week you tempted fate and decided to venture back to Arkham University in 'Extracurricular Activity'. You were tasked with finding Professor Warren all the while your deck whittled away to nothingness. With 2 Elder Things in the Chaos Bag, 4 copies of Across Space and Time in your Deck and Beyond the Veil starting in play, very little time could be wasted.

This week i am out of town so Challenge #3 is being a posted  day early.

A conundrum was posted on the Mythos Busters Discord channel and Facebook regarding timing windows on moving through Train Cars in the Essex County Express. Thanks to David (SgtMook), the conversation really took off and many people had their say on the correct timing of the conundrum.

This got me thinking and really helped me design this week's challenge. Many of you have stated you like the changing aspects each scenario receives, regardless of the difficulty of each of the challenges. This week is a little different. This weeks challenge, i haven't even completed! I think it can be done but i haven't compiled quite the right deck for it yet. This is where you come in...

To be clear, any player card that allows you to move is completely fine. It's the generic move action that is out of question.

I have attempted this with both Rita Young and Wendy Adams but to no avail. The hardest part is obtaining the clues needed to advance to the next location WITHOUT moving, and having to evade enemies whilst utilising them to move with certain card interactions.

Good Luck!

  1. Hi, I was able to complete this challenge with Ashcan Pete and trusty Duke, who gives a free move action with his investigate action. Shortcut was also helpful. I included Think on your Feet and Mists of R'yleh just in cas but did not draw them. I ended with 1 doom on Agenda 3, and four passenger cars plus the engine still on the tracks. I lucked into very few enemies: 1 grappling horror that I had to kill, 1 wizard of the order who wound up at the back of the train before the first car got taken away, and 1 emergent monstrosity that I managed to sneak past on a location with only 1 clue. I think it took me six turns because 2 of the doom were for the wizard of the order and 1 ancient evils that I drew near the end. Duke was the real VIP though. Twice I got to move two times in one turn because of this ability and also the free trigger to unexhaust him.

    1. Great work Eric. Ashcan is my favourite Investigator and to be honest, i didn't feel like playing this with him because i'd had Ashcan fatigue. Should have though, using Duke seems like a sure thing in this challenge.
