Arkham Horror: Tall Tales Challenge #1
G'day Players!
What a success! Arkham Horror: Tall Tales tested it's first challenge upon the community 3 days ago and you have all took it upon yourselves to post decks on ArkhamDB, and send me your victories on Facebook, Reddit and Discord and discuss how you achieved this challenge's requirements.
This week pits Investigators to play "The House Always Wins" on standard, 0 to 49 Experience. The only caveat been you must resign at the La Bella Luna location, rather than the usual Back Alley location. You literally need to exit the front door!
Many of you succeeded with little turns to spare. There were some general takes from all the comments and decks posted on ArkhamDB, including some "MVP" cards that helped you achieve this goal.
While I want to avoid spoiling possible solutions to this puzzle, there is no control yet done for this challenge. As such, later weeks formats will change, with the discussion happening before the next one is released. As this is the first, we'll make an exception.
(SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE DUNWICH LEGACY: "THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS")
- Quick Thinking (0).
Gave players that extra turn required as back up in case things got dicey. Perfect for using alongside the parley tests needed to take control of Dr. Morgan, as you can advance to Act 3 very quickly, doing 2 parleys in a row in Solo Play.
- Swift Reflexes (0)
Perfect for dealing with drawn enemies during Agenda 2. It allows you to move, evade and fight all outside of your regular actions, allowing you to move faster. You only had 6 turns to achieve Resolution 2. This card allowed most of you to finish it in 5.
- Elusive (2*)
The card that probably won the most challenges so far. Elusive allowed you to circumvent the whole club without even stepping foot back into the Darkened Hall from the VIP room. If there was one card I would consider restricting in later 'timed' tests, this is one of them.
So the standout class was indeed the Rogue. The ability to gain massive tempo with increased actions allowed for a much faster exit out the front door. As soon as Agenda 2 appears, Rogues also shine when evading. As all enemies lose Aloof at this point.
This challenge both taught me about cards that I personally haven't used enough in my games, and also taught me that some changes will need to be made to the challenges ahead. I will be adding restricted list to future challenges. I have decided to add one restricted card to this challenge, but only as a formality. "I'm outta here!" allows for an almost ludicrous speed to complete Resolution 2. And in my mind, it's almost pointless to include this card. What's a challenge without the challenge itself? As such this card is restricted and cannot be included in your deck...
Future Challenges will have these Story Cards included in the blog posts. you can either refer to this page or print them out if the rules get tad complicated in the future.
Thank you to all who undertook Challenge #1 and all who considered trying it out this week. Challenge 2 will be released Fridays 5pm AEST (Thursdays 3am EDT).
Once again, thank you to you all that contributed and embraced this new piece of the Arkham Horror community.
